Challenge:
Metallit, a family-owned company in the heart of Bielefeld, now in its third generation, focuses on manufacturing and providing extensive service in the field of workshop technology. Their portfolio ranges from tools such as drills, welding and grinding machines, to cleaners and personal protective equipment. This is complemented by a very personal and comprehensive service built on many long-standing customer relationships. Metallit GmbH has over 200 employees in the field serving customers in 30 of its own sales subsidiaries across Europe. Metallit is looking for a solution that allows for continuous access to the latest and cleanest product data for field colleagues and optimizes the sales process.
Solution:
To meet these requirements, Metallit GmbH relies on two core elements of the prodexa platform – product data structuring with PIM and OPC as a sales portal. The new environment serves as a central platform for maintaining product data, and with the help of OPC (Online Product Catalog), the sales process can be effectively and paperlessly managed. Each employee in direct customer contact uses tablets to access over 100,000 products via the purely web-based OPC. By connecting to Metallit’s customer database, individual offers and orders can be compiled, sent, and if necessary, placed on-site directly through OPC. At Metallit’s request, the ordering process in OPC has been enhanced with the option of a digital signature to sign the order. This allows order lists to be created, signed, and directly transferred to Metallit’s ordering system with the customer. The special feature is that individual prices are available for nearly 90,000 customers and can be directly considered in the offers or orders. In addition to strengthening the field service, the primary task of structuring product data cleanly is also emphasized. Initially, product data is created in the ERP system and priced. At regular intervals, these are transferred to the PIM system and enriched by product managers and data caretakers. Prices are also transferred from SAP to the platform to be available for sales representatives later. The prodexa Cloud PIM platform processes not only technical product features but also media content, including images, technical documents, certificates, or video content, which can be directly assigned to products as YouTube links. Due to the purely web-based solution, external content of any kind can be directly imported into PIM and displayed.
Outlook:
In the next project phase, Metallit is considering expanding access to the sales platform OPC to its current 90,000+ customers to provide even faster access to products. This will help avoid delays in the ordering process and allow for prompt responses to simple product detail inquiries through self-service.
