Challenge

With its 220 employees based in Lüdenscheid, the ASSMANN Group has been synonymous with the highest quality in network technology, network and installation cables, network and server cabinets, computer cables, computer components, and video solutions for over 50 years. Just like the products themselves, product information must meet a high standard of quality. For the worldwide distribution of over ten thousand products, marketing texts in 14 languages are required in addition to many technical features. It is essential to maintain product information consistently and up-to-date across all output channels. The ASSMANN Group operates across multiple locations and sought a solution that reduces IT efforts and eliminates the need for local installations.

Solution

ASSMANN relies on prodexa Cloud PIM for managing its product data. Today, up to 15 product managers across 4 locations take care of the valuable data. prodexa Cloud PIM is purely web-based, allowing all employees across locations easy access to product information. prodexa Cloud PIM ensures that the information is not only synchronized daily with ERP systems but also with output channels such as webshops, CMS, the ASSMANN website, and a specially developed Product Finder for discerning professionals. The PIM system also provides specific formats for customers or marketplaces based on CSV/Excel, BMEcat, XML, or predefined listing templates. Concurrent with the adoption of a new PIM system, the ASSMANN Group also began the simultaneous introduction of a webshop based on OXID eSales. This ambitious goal challenged all project participants not only to perform the basic data modeling and cleanup of existing information but also to work simultaneously on the necessary interface between systems and the associated data preparation process. Today, new information from global suppliers is regularly imported, processed, consolidated with existing product data, and then published via the platform.

“With the introduction of prodexa, we are able to publish our product data simultaneously across all our sales channels and easily reconcile them daily with our different ERP systems. This not only saves us time in maintenance but also greatly reduces errors due to distributed data storage.”

Outlook

The next steps include the introduction of the current ETIM classification structure in version 8 and increased use of mapping rules. This involves mapping the internal product structure to the standard exchange classification used in the industry or automatically populating the corresponding attributes directly in the PIM system. Additionally, print is being introduced as an additional channel. Initially, the focus is on catalog planning and the derivation of catalog structures (including product data) to our partner InBetween. The goal is to reduce the lead times of catalog creation from product planning to the finished printed catalog and automate as many steps as possible.
